COURSE DESCRIPTION
Start your journey in the hospitality industry with our Barista and Food Safety course. This nationally accredited course provides practical training in espresso coffee preparation and hygienic food handling practices, helping students build the essential skills needed to work in cafés, restaurants, bars and other hospitality venues.
Students will learn how to prepare and serve espresso coffee using commercial equipment while also gaining knowledge of food safety procedures and hygiene standards required in hospitality workplaces.
On successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment.
UNITS OF COMPETENCY
- SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety
- SITHFAB025 Prepare and serve espresso coffee
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Students will learn how to:
- Prepare and serve espresso coffee beverages
- Operate and maintain coffee machines and grinders
- Follow hygienic food handling procedures
- Identify and control food safety hazards
- Maintain workplace hygiene and cleanliness standards
COURSE DELIVERY
Theory components are completed online through Moodle before attending the practical class. Practical training is delivered face-to-face by qualified trainers at Western Sydney Skills Hub, North Parramatta.
Learning activities include demonstrations, practical tasks, observations, and knowledge-based assessments.
Class delivery: Saturday & Sunday
Course duration: 4 hours
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no formal prerequisites; however, basic language, literacy, numeracy and computer skills are recommended.
Students must bring:
- Pen and paper
- Closed-in non-slip shoes
- Long pants
- T-shirt or long sleeves
- Apron
Learner resources are provided. Students will also require access to a computer and internet to complete online theory components.
