COURSE DESCRIPTION

Looking to start a career in retail or build your existing retail skills? The Retail Pathway course provides practical training to help you develop the confidence and knowledge needed to work effectively in a retail environment.

This course is ideal for individuals entering the retail industry or current retail workers wanting to upskill and prepare for supervisory opportunities. Students will gain hands-on skills in customer service, teamwork, retail operations, stock handling and workplace safety.

On successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment from selected units within SIR30216 Certificate III in Retail.

UNITS OF COMPETENCY
  • SIRXCOM002 - Work effectively in a team
  • SIRRINV001 - Receive and handle retail stock
  • SIRXSLS001 - Sell to the retail customer
  • BSBOPS304 - Deliver and monitor a service to customers

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students will learn how to:

  • Engage and assist retail customers
  • Work effectively within a team
  • Maintain daily store operations
  • Handle and manage retail stock
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures

COURSE DELIVERY

Training is delivered face-to-face at Western Sydney Skills Hub, North Parramatta, with support from qualified industry trainers.

Learning activities include:

  • Role plays
  • Case studies
  • Demonstrations
  • Classroom activities and discussions

Assessments may include knowledge questions, projects, presentations, practical demonstrations and observations.

Course duration: 6 weeks | 2 days per week | 5-hour sessions

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no formal prerequisites; however, basic language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills are recommended.

Learner manuals are provided. Students will require access to a computer and internet for assessments and research activities.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

If you already have relevant work experience or prior training, you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer. Please contact the college before enrolling to discuss your options.

GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY

NSW Government subsidy may be available for eligible students under the Adult and Community Education (ACE) program.
